~Ground Aluminum~
![]() Here is a cool metal effect done by grinding the metal
and adding kandy over it. You can also just clear the panel and
have the raw metal look
![]() We start off with an aluminum sign blank you can
buy these at a sign supply store in various sizes
![]() Taking the grinder with a scotchbrite disc I grind off all
the enamel coating leaving us with a bare aluminum panel
![]() Here is the panel after taking off the coating if you have a
piece of raw aluminum you can skip this step
![]() Now its time to make the patterns going in different directions,
different speeds and holding the die grinder at different angles
will give you some really cool designs I use a scotchbrite disc on the
grinder and it does not scar up the metal like a 36 or 80 grit does so that
means less coats of clear
Now its time to paint
![]() At this stage I have degreased the panel and tacked it
its hard to see it but I have already sprayed the adhesion promoter
I have also added a little blue Zirillic pearl to the adhesion promoter
this gives it a little more punch.
![]() This is the adhesion promoter I use there are a lot of different
ones out there use what you like
![]() This is the pearl I used and there are also many
different kinds
![]() this is the clear and activator I use in the shop
but like the pearl and the adhesion promoter there are many different brands
choose what ever you like the best
![]() Here is the kandy, I chose to shoot this one in a Pagan gold
all I do is mix up a little in the clear stated earlier and we are ready to shoot
![]() ![]() This is 3M's pps system it really makes painting nice and clean you mix up your paint in
the little cups and liners and then just throw them away when you are done
each one has a liner and a cap with a built in filter it makes clean up easy
![]() ![]() this is the completed panel after spraying to coats of the Kandy and clear mix
and then spraying a good coat of clear over it and letting it dry some times it is necessary
wet sand one time and re-clear to get rid of any grinding marks
![]() these are few examples of different designs you
can do
![]() Have fun
